Silk Cord 2

Length: 136″
Diameter: approx. 3/32″
Warp: 8 ends of 2 ply black silk, 4 ends of 2 ply blue silk (12 total)
Weft: 2 ply black silk (same as warp)

I had about 5″ of waste on each end of the cord. So, about 10″ of waste from the Large Gilmore Wave. Not bad. A bit more than from an inkle loom but I can put on a longer warp. Not a bad trade-off.

The cord has a mat finish from the spun tussah silk, but it sparkles when the light hits it. It’s definitely different from a cord woven from reeled bombyx, but I like it. I think I am going to have to try to spin more for a kumihimo project and see how that transforms the silk.

is this a tubular weave with the weft always entering the shed from the same side?

Yes. It’s the first time I’ve played with tubular weave on a band. It’s quite fun to create my own piping this way. It’ll be trim on my bag.
